Social Networks….The real power of the Web.

Social Network 2 24 08  The power of the web is its ability to link us together.  Does your business network look like this photo or is your your network a mess…….

Well, let’s ask the first question…. What heck is a social network?   A social network is a cluster of points…people, ideas, thoughts… whatever…. that are related somehow either directly or indirectly….. Bottom line…. a Rotary group is a point in your social network.  Your high school friends are another point…… Your church group…… your client list…

Several years ago a family friend shared she still is in contact with her high school classmates…. Wow.. I thought what discipline to write notes, call or visit someone you haven’t seen in 35 years or more…. As I thought more about it, the power of relationships are in direct proportion to the time and effort you put into keeping in touch….reaching out…. circling back… whatever you want to call it…. making a disciplined effort to link… keeps you connected……

Take a long and continuous look at your linkages…Because if you are not staying in contact with your clients, then someone else is……. it’s all about relationships…. So much more to share….  tomorrow…Terry……

Slave or Heir

Life in the trenches…….In business, life and sport, the difference between winning and second is “Heart”. You can have two humans both gifted… one wins the other is second…. Why? You can write a book on this subject, but boiling it down it’s the human who refuses to heed defeat….The willingness to die, put everything on the line, to go the extra 15 minutes when everyone else goes home, who rehearses over and over again each aspect of his game… nothing is left to change… We call this person a winner… He becomes the heir of his business… no longer a slave to actions…. He has the “put me in the game coach”… I was made for this moment… This kind of drive and determination…… That’s the difference… Go have fun, learn something, bless and prosper someone and be a hero right now….Terry McDaniel Real Estate Evangelist…

Consumers want to Vote with their opinions…Reviews

Let your customers/clients/buyers/sellers/…anyone speak their mind…..

New research from the e-tailing group has reinforced the importance of user reviews for etailers, with 98% of shoppers reading reviews before making a purchase.

The US-based study (pdf) concludes that reviews are a ‘must-have’ for e-commerce sites, so why are some retailers still not adding reviews?

Highlights from the study include:

  • More than half of consumers said they spent 10 minutes or more reading reviews before deciding whether to purchase.
  • 65% of consumers read reviews ‘all’ or ‘most of’ the time. Of these users, 76% were more likely to shop on a website that offered user reviews.
  • The more reviews, the better – 68% felt that at least four reviews of a product were needed to make a purchase decision.
  • For etailers, the top three reasons for adding user reviews were customer experience, customer loyalty and driving sales.

Despite the apparent benefits of user reviews, a lot of etailers have yet to adopt them.

In our Social Commerce Report last year, we found that just 28% of retailers surveyed had added them, though 52% were considering this option.

According to Bazaarvoice’s Brett Hurt, the addition of reviews can lead to an uplift in conversion rates of up to 20%, as well as increasing average order values by 15% to 30%.

Reviews can be especially useful for consumer electronics purchases, yet many UK websites in this sector have yet to adopt user reviews, including PC World, Comet and Curry’s.

As well as being useful to help customers decide on a purchase, reviews can have a positive effect on etailers’ credibility and also provide some useful unique content, which is very useful from an SEO perspective.

Know Where the Money Goes…..

RISMEDIA, Feb. 14, 2008-Nearly 60% of young U.S. couples surveyed argue over money at least once a month, according to PayPal’s second annual “Can’t Buy Me Love” survey. Meanwhile, issues relating to work and household responsibilities top the list for couples in the UK. In both countries, sex ranked low on the list of couples’ common arguments, coming in fifth. The research, conducted by Ipsos, examined how personal finance issues affect couples and singles in the U.S. and UK.“The ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ survey takes a look at the role money plays in romantic relationships,” explains author and personal finance expert, Carmen Wong Ulrich.

“Communicating with your partner about money is a vital part of developing and maintaining a happy relationship. It’s very interesting to see how dynamics and priorities differ between genders and nationalities.”

Arguing about money is not the only difference between U.S. couples responding to the survey and those in relationships across the pond. UK couples are more likely to have separate bank accounts (71%), while about half of American couples share bank accounts.

For the second consecutive year, the survey found that PayPal is the number two most popular reported method of payment for respondents buying their Valentine’s Day gifts online, immediately after credit cards.

Other surprising findings uncovered through PayPal’s “Can’t Buy Me Love” survey include:

– Nearly one in four couples responding to the survey in both countries use online shopping as a way to keep their partners in the dark about their purchases.
– Women surveyed in both countries agree it isn’t the man’s responsibility to pick up the tab after a dinner date. Women in the U.S. think the man should pay only if he initiates the date. Whereas, women in the UK think splitting the check is polite, regardless of who instigates the date.
– Traditional “romantic” gifts still top the list of the most popular Valentine’s Day presents given by responding couples in both locations. Cards are the most popular, followed by dinner dates and flowers.

The PayPal “Can’t Buy Me Love” Survey was conducted by Ipsos from December 12, 2007 to December 18, 2007 via e-mail invitation to online panelists. The total sample size was 3,002 respondents (1,500 U.S. and 1,502 UK), with quotas to ensure sample distribution accurately represented the online population with regard to age and gender.
